I came across a very good article from www.social-consciosness.com that tells us 10 simple things we can do to make us happier. Although there are lots of articles with the same topic, I particularly like this one because it is supported by scholarly articles. To share with you some thoughts, let me quote their 5th tip:
In The Happiness Advantage, Shawn Achor recommends spending time in the fresh air to improve your happiness: Making time to go outside on a nice day also delivers a huge advantage; one study found that spending 20 minutes outside in good weather not only boosted positive mood, but broadened thinking and improved working memory… This is pretty good news for those of us who are worried about fitting new habits into our already-busy schedules. Twenty minutes is a short enough time to spend outside that you could fit it into your commute or even your lunch break. A UK study from the University of Sussex also found that being outdoors made people happier: Being outdoors, near the sea, on a warm, sunny weekend afternoon is the perfect spot for most. In fact, participants were found to be substantially happier outdoors in all natural environments than they were in urban environments. The American Meteorological Society published research in 2011 that found current temperature has a bigger effect on our happiness than variables like wind speed and humidity, or even the average temperature over the course of a day. It also found that happiness is maximized at 13.9°C, so keep an eye on the weather forecast before heading outside for your 20 minutes of fresh air.

In times like this, where internet use is very popular, when most people tend to work a lot, and when kids take most of their time in front of their computers or other gadgets playing games, the rate of family bonding activity is expected to decrease.
We cannot blame anyone; these changes are brought about by time. We tend to just do what most of the people are doing and as we all know, activities change from generation to another. We have heard our grandparents mention about balls or soirees wherein they had to meet other people then dance. We have heard them look for classic board games (not Candy Crush or Plants vs. Zombies 2) whenever we ask them to play with us. Our parents might have shared stories about how they went to concerts even without their parent’s permission just to see their favourite rock icons. You might have heard them talk about how active they were during those days – how they spend their time playing softball and Frisbee, sport fishing in Kona, watching television shows together, and a whole lot of events that kids find uncommon nowadays.
I am not saying that what we have now are harmful. In fact, I love innovations and technology! But it is actually preventing us from spending healthy moments with our family members. Most parents nowadays provide the ‘needs’ of their family by spending so much time in their offices and sometimes bringing work at home. They then purchase computer gadgets and all the entertaining stuff for their kids. However, if you are to ask these kids, they would honestly say that things would be very different if they were able to spend more time with their parents. This is what they really need.
Let us take sport fishing in Kona as example. Although this can be quite pricey, the experience is all worth it. If your family decides to take this kind of adventure, your bonding starts the moment you plan it! Everyone would be hyped to shop for their swim wears (of course, they have to look good at Instagram). Sport fishing in Kona would allow father and sons to test their manly skills. Girls on the other hand can still enjoy because they will be surrounded by spectacular view at the boat and can even appreciate the beauty of marine life as they snorkel or swim with the dolphins.
The bottom-line is, we have to make sure that we spend adequate time with our families too no matter what the activity is. Remember, social life is not only limited in the World Wide Web. Go out have fun and get to know your family members more!
